We provided Army HQ with project, programme and portfolio management expertise and, along with Niteworks (via Engage Technical Solutions), began implementing this best practice solution.
Situation
As part of the response to the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) transformation, Army HQ wanted to establish a new portfolio and programme management capability to enable them to continue the Develop and Generate functions as part of the new Acquisition System Operating Model.
In order to help Army HQ achieve its goal, they commissioned Niteworks to design and implement a new portfolio and programme management office (PMO) capability within the organisation.
Task(s)
The key ask was to provide planning support to the project lead and to monitor the delivery of outputs of the team within the time constraints of the project. We also provided P3M specialist advice and coaching for programme management practitioners across the Army HQ organisation.
Action
The project took place during a time of significant change and uncertainty within the organisation, with a series of complex stakeholder requirements to navigate. Niteworks approached us to form part of their 15-strong team, providing project and stakeholder management support through a best athlete selection process.
Results
Our role was critical in ensuring that the team delivered the client’s expectations and met the brief. We ensured stakeholders were engaged effectively and in a coordinated way, resulting in an aligned and collaborative team effort. Our team understood the complex nature of the transformation and was able to provide sound P3M advice on the best way to implement portfolio and programme management principles in the Army HQ environment.
Army HQ is now responsible for balancing and prioritising spending, driving efficiency and improvement, and setting the equipment and support requirements and budget for Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S).
