Apache iX Limited (the “iX” stands for Independent Experts) is a Bristol born consultancy with a UK wide team. We provide specialist P3M and technical services, including the design and development of secure cloud based solutions, to government and industry clients across defence and adjacent sectors.

  • Jeff

    Jeff

    Having undertaken MOD and Industrial roles with several of the major defence primes, Jeff’s knowledge and skillset encompasses a thorough understanding of the current industry and MOD approvals and project management disciplines, tools and techniques.

    With over three decades of defence programmes experience, initially with engineering contractors, then with MOD, & latterly with project management consultancies. These roles have focussed on generating Business Cases, Through Life Management Planning, Cost Estimating, Programme Management, Project Cost & Risk Control & Options Analysis for large complex projects across Cyber, Maritime, ISTAR, Air, Weapons & Land domains.

    In non-work mode, Jeff is keen on playing and watching sport including football, rugby, tennis, horse-racing, and golf especially if they involve overseas venues.

    John

    John has over 20 years defence experience, as a consultant and company director working on a range of programmes with particular focus on digital platforms and intelligence output. John has extensive experience in client facing roles where he can negotiate and facilitate complex projects through approvals and into delivery.

    Most recently John has been involved in setting up Dev Ops teams to deliver rapid change within the Defence Digital area. He has cultivated key relationships across the supply chain in this this fast-evolving sector to formulate Agile teams capable of delivering secure systems with wide ranging capability. The ability to evolve and improve capability to end users at pace, motivates John and will be a focus area in his career going forward.

    Away from work, John enjoys everything sport and fitness related and is overly competitive with his kids. He also has a keen interest in environmental start-up companies promoting green technology and carbon neutral targets.

    Andrew P

    Andrew has ~20 years’ experience of the UK defence sector working with MOD and Other Government Departments on various acquisition and transformation programmes across multiple domains. Andrew is a problem solver who enjoys tackling challenging issues and developing innovative solutions.

    Andrew’s background in engineering brings a methodical and structured approach to problem solving. He also has a creative side which brings new and forward thinking to address tomorrow’s challenges which exist in a digital world.

    Outside of work, Andrew has simple tastes and is easily pleased. Cooking and eating good food are his favourite things to do, which then requires exercise to balance (his least favourite pastime). Andrew says he is a keen ‘downhill’ mountain biker, but he hasn’t been recently because it’s getting a little bit too scary. Also, his bike won’t ride up hill. Other interests include trying to play the drums, economics, and when he’s in need of a mood uplift, geo-political events.

    Mike is a P3M Engineering Consultant with over 20 years’ experience in Defence Acquisition. He has developed a reputation of taking on complex and challenging projects and achieving high quality deliverables.

    Mike has experience of delivering projects and programmes in support of UK Armed Forces across domains including Intelligence Surveillance Targeting Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR), Maritime, and Defence Digital.

    Outside of the workplace, Mike enjoys a lot of sport including Football, Tennis & indoor climbing. Other interests include travelling, cooking, cycling, driving, car cleaning(!), music and dog walking.

    Nadia

    Nadia has successfully contributed to a number of high-value projects across the Aerospace, Defence and Security & Intelligence markets, offering a wide range of experience in developing, delivering, integrating and testing complex technology solutions. Her professional interests include requirements capture & elaboration, functional system decomposition & analysis and architecture modelling.

    By combining specialist system engineering knowledge with her strong and effective stakeholder management skills and a proactive work ethic, Nadia has a strong record in delivering high quality and timely value to her clients

    In her spare time, Nadia is a big fan of travelling and all things outdoors – running, hiking, climbing, wild swimming and camping. She’s also known to enjoy a beverage or two (preferably also outside).

    Tim W

    Tim is a highly capable consultant who specialises in the support & analysis of defence projects & systems. He has an extensive knowledge of the defence industry, and is able to apply his project experience across a wide variety of domains. Capable of working alone or as part of a team, he is resilient under pressure, understands the MOD’s Business Case requirements from both MOD and Industry perspectives, and brings an enthusiastic and up-beat attitude to his work.

    Tim has experience across Air, Land and Maritime domains working for MoD and NATO. He has run his own company providing freelance estimating and pricing support on aircraft platform programmes, and cost modelling for business cases.

    When away from work, Tim likes to spend time with his family, play sport and watch rugby.

    John-Paul

    John-Paul has in excess of 20 years GEOINT experience from a wide range of view-points within a Projects life cycle including developer, operations and as an End User. This experience provides John-Paul with an excellent understanding of the difficulties and competing priorities of a range of stakeholders within a Project.

    John-Paul has a proven track record in requirements capture & their decomposition, as well as being an effective Business Analyst and capable tester. Extensive experience with both Waterfall and more agile delivery methods of Change; John-Paul’s current role is a SAFe® Product Owner.

    Away from work, John-Paul loves to garden and is growing an orchard to make cider. He enjoys trips to the beach to explore the geography be it walking, coasteering or snorkelling with his family. John-Paul really likes to cook as long as a dishwasher is at hand. As a very amateur astronomer John-Paul, confesses to being a closet SpaceX fan.

    With over 20 years successful delivery and leadership experience in complex programmes in Defence and wider Government, Andy embraces the challenge of understanding how his programme level skills and experience can be applied to different sectors, scenarios and delivery challenges.

    Andy is a Chartered Engineer (IET), Project Professional (APM), Manager (CMI) and recognised Fellow of the associated Professional Institutions.

    As an experienced leader he has an open, honest and methodical but versatile approach with clients. He applies intelligent and creative thinking to build positive relationships, generating good two-way communication which yields the desired benefits for all.

    In non-work mode, his interests are travelling, youth work and sport, especially football. He is an ardent Hull City AFC supporter and regular 5-a-side football player.

    Josh

    Josh is an experienced DevOps engineer and consultant with a wide-ranging skill set. Most recently working in an agile DevOps capacity, he has experience delivering on international projects; he has occupied many different roles within teams in both a management and technical capacity.

    As an experienced Linux and cloud engineer he encourages the use of repeatable, well-understood design patterns in tandem with Open-Source software and a modular architecture to maximise re-use and security. He has experience with numerical modelling including discretization and coding of physical phenomena using the finite element method to model physical phenomena. He has used MATLAB, C++, Python and bespoke tooling in numerical data modelling and processing.

    Jonathan

    Jon has over 20 years’ experience in project management and software engineering. He has led multiple projects in parallel and with large multi-disciplinary teams delivering complex software projects ensuring compliance with safety standards such as ED-109 and DO-178B.

    Jon’s strong technical background and attention to detail allows effective and robust planning of large projects. Jon has a high commercial awareness and builds string customer relationships to ensure delivery against obligations and expectations.

    In non-work mode, Jon enjoys the mountains, whether skiing, running, hiking, or just camping.

    Tim G

    Having worked as an MOD Civil Servant within both the Project Management and Project Controls domains across both DE&S and Defence Digital, Tim has valuable expertise and in-depth knowledge of the policies and processes required to deliver high quality outputs within tight time constraints.

    With over 3 years’ experience in the MOD, Tim is comfortable working across all stages of the project lifecycle. He is enthusiastic, a great communicator, and likes to form long lasting, effective working relationships. Tim’s experience ranges from the management of complex Defence IT projects through to project controls management support at the portfolio level.

    Outside of work, Tim enjoys running, camping and just generally being outdoors. He was also a keen rugby player until running took over and made him too light!

    Oliver

    Oliver is a Junior Project Manager who has a great understanding of the Defence sector and more specifically the user community, he is enthusiastic, effective and enjoys working in large teams to help clients deliver their programmes and projects.

    Oli studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Northumbria. He attended Welbeck DSFC and subsequently joined the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme which installed in him excellent leadership techniques and effective teamwork.

    Oli is a keen golfer with the goal of playing off scratch in the next 5 years, follower of Formula 1 and rugby. Self-proclaimed “foodie” with a great knowledge of the hospitality industry.

    Arjun

    Arjun has eight years’ experience architecting and developing engineering software solutions for simulation, modelling, workflow control and automation, and data science applications, spending much of his career thus far in the precision effects domain of the UK aerospace and defence sector.

    Arjun is dedicated to solving complex challenges and addressing these through the use of technology. He is passionate about adaptive development, learning empirically from continuous experimentation to improve the product or Ways of Working. He is acutely aware of how quality, technical excellence and engaged teams are pivotal to succeeding with this approach – he seeks to enable this working environment.

    Outside work, Arjun enjoys throwing himself around as much as his glass knees will allow; biking, touch rugby, cricket, climbing, running – anything involving throwing, catching, hitting, etc. This sustains a food habit, sometimes interrupted by reading and gardening.

    Matthew W

    Bringing together a strong background in analysis, strategy and planning with recent academic research in International Relations, Matt combines a detailed understanding of the macro-environment with specific tools, techniques and insights to enable long-term decision-making in the defence sector.

    Matt has a decade of experience working in the defence industry, including in the commercial, strategy and planning, and business development functions, with particular emphasis on market and competitor analysis, strategy development, and business planning. The outputs of these have been used to support senior leaders, campaign teams and investment decisions. He also completed a secondment into the Department for International Trade prior to undertaking academic research on modern air power.

    Outside of work, Matt is a dedicated fan of Formula 1 and enjoys travel, combining the two where he can. He is also an avid reader, and loves exploring second-hand bookshops to find books on geopolitics, dystopian fiction and aviation.

    Heather

    Heather has over 10 years’ experience in the Project Management industry working across both the Defence and Financial Services sectors on IT implementation and transformation programmes. Heather is a critical thinker and enjoys finding new and innovative ways to do things in a more efficient and effective manner.

    From her experience in PMO, Heather has strong interpersonal skills as well as expertise in stakeholder management, RAID management and financial modelling. She has implemented appropriate governance across large complex programmes, ensuring processes and reporting are conducted in the most efficient way whilst not detracting from the delivery of work.

    Outside of work, Heather enjoys curling up on the sofa with her dog Luna to enjoy a good book, baking tasty treats and following the Formula 1.

    Matthew P

    Matthew P has worked in the aerospace and cyber defence sectors for over 12 years. He has worked on aircraft structures, systems, and cyber security implementation. There are few flying aircraft types, civil or military, that Matthew hasn’t worked on.

    Having worked for the MOD for over 5 years, and in the private sector for 7, Matthew has a deep level of understanding of how the public sector can work with the private. He is a committed engineering manager, marrying aspects of technical problem solving, with the management of projects and people. He is also a problem solver having worked across many aspects of engineering.

    In his spare time, Matthew continues the aviation theme, having a pilot’s licence, and owning a share in a light aircraft. He is also a keen sportsman playing league tennis regularly, and any other sports when the opportunity presents itself. Lastly he also strums the occasional guitar.

    Kevin

    With a history of delivering engineering projects in highly regulated environments such as Oil & Gas combined with recent work leading business change projects with Defence, Kevin has a unique skillset. This allows him to adapt to a wide range of scenarios, being equally happy dealing with technical or business aspects as well as enjoying stakeholder management.

    Kevin’s most recent role has seen him leading a wide-ranging business change project within the Electronic Warfare space. The aims were to bring new thinking, technology and business practices to revolutionise the space. Kevin worked to develop an Agile approach to delivery that still satisfied the rigorous governance and auditability required. This new way of working for MoD brought its own challenges, which was fantastic LfE that Kevin can bring back to the Defence space in future projects.

    Outside of work Kevin is a man of many hobbies and not enough time to do them all! He loves getting outside to run, cycle and paddleboard as well as snowboarding in the winter. He’s also creative, playing bass in local bands.

    Anisah

    Anisah is a Junior P3M Consultant with Apache iX, previously she has completed an internship at Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) which gave her a great understanding of the defence sector.

    Ani studied International Relations at university and enjoys keeping up to date with global affairs. After university, Ani joined the NHS as a Project Officer and helped to support and manage many large-scale projects to help NHS England with improving the lives of patients and colleagues. Ani also brings with her the experience of leading on engagement plans for and managing large corporate social media accounts, which is key to help grow businesses and organisations.

    In her spare time, Ani enjoyed travelling, scenic walks, watching and keeping up to date with Formula 1 and winding down with some origami or painting.

    Gavin is a highly capable leader with specialism within P3M and Engineering. With 28yrs Defence experience Gavin has a proven track record of leading highly complex projects and deliveries across the ICT and Aircraft Procurement & Support domains. For the last 5 years Gavin has been working with a client community, supporting the provision of operational and intelligence capabilities. Gavin is a keen promoter of project management principles and ensures the team are adhering to these principles in the delivery of their projects.

    Gavin is a motivated self-starter that enjoys a challenging work environment with difficult stakeholders.

    Outside of work Gavin keeps himself busy running the family farm situated in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons where he raises Beef Cattle and Horses. Gavin is also a keen mountain biker and tries to get out on the bike weekly.

    Andy has 29+ years’ experience working in the MOD in a variety of operational support and project roles, developing and integrating technology solutions into business operations. In his most recent MOD role, Andy led a large business unit delivering technical services and driving capability led business change into a high tempo operational environment.

    Andy understands the complexities of implementing, operating and maintaining critical business systems and is driven to provide sustainable solutions that deliver tangible benefits centred around the user experience. He has led project teams utilising Waterfall and Agile methodologies and is passionate about engaging collaboratively with stakeholders to rapidly deliver value adding solutions.

    Away from work, Andy spends most of his time with family and friends, either tending a BBQ, walking in the countryside or playing golf.

    David

    David has over 30 years’ experience working for the MOD in the GEOINT environment. Staring as a Cartographer, he spent time as a System Admin before moving into Service Delivery and Project Management roles.

    David has extensive experience of managing project delivery for complex technology updates. He has a good track record with stakeholder management and is focussed on providing solutions that genuinely meet the customer need.

    More recently David has adapted to working under SAFe Agile methodologies and performed a number of roles within that framework, including acting as Product Owner for a diverse group of GEOINT analysts.

    Outside of work David is a keen music fan and is often found at gigs in small venues across London and the South East. He also enjoys watching and taking part in sport, particularly football, cycling and NFL.

    Emma has recently graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London with a degree in history. Her background in history brings strong research, analysis and organisational skills. Emma is naturally inquisitive and interested in learning new things.

    Emma is Apache’s first graduate and is looking forward to pursuing her interest in project management. Her previous retail and hospitality roles have developed her customer service abilities.

    In her spare time, Emma enjoys volunteering as a leader at her local Rainbows group, spending time with friends and family, documentaries, following current affairs and travelling.

    Calum

    Having experienced both public and private sector, Calum joins Apache with a wide range of experience, managing both physical and cloud computing over his career and having helped lead the charge into Azure while working for his local county council. His experience with large corporate IT and smaller scale commerical work have left him well versed in how to tackle and adapt to new challenges big and small.

    With a degree in Computer Games Design, Calum found himself naturally drawn to the coding side of things, developing a strong understanding of C++ that allowed him to naturally pivot into further scripting and command languages, which continue to expand thanks to his avaricious desire to learn and gain new experience.

    Outside of work, Calum can be found playing video games when not developing his own, or at the gym or his local boxing club, when he’s not backpacking around the world.

    Tom

    Tom has ~10 years’ experience of the UK defence sector working as a Cost Engineer within DE&S, delivering Single Source Price Investigations against various Defence Suppliers.

    Tom has experience across Air, Maritime and Land Systems, but has predominantly worked on Weapons Systems in recent years as part of the DE&S Land Domain Project Delivery team. Tom is a big fan of MS Excel and believes all problems can be solved with its correct use.

    Outside of work Tom likes to spend time with family, play computer games, eat BBQ, and when physically able, run out for Chipping Sodbury Rugby Club, with whom he has been a player/member for over 20 years.

    Mark H

    For the last 15 years, Mark has served with Dorset Police, most recently on National collaboration projects involving key stakeholders from emergency services, digital & critical infrastructure suppliers & the Home Office.

    Mark has a methodical approach to problem solving with attention to detail, enabling progress on projects where things may have stalled. He brings experience of operational environments, conflict resolution, expertise in business continuity, contingency planning & disaster recovery, as well as being a qualified investigator. From planning & delivering the safety & security operations of the 2012 Olympic Games, Royal visits & Air Festivals, to safeguarding, control room upgrades & deployment planning, Mark brings a range of skills that provide innovative & dynamic approaches to P3 management.

    To relax, Mark enjoys spending time with his family, playing badminton, & walks along the beach.

    Johnathan

    With ~15 years successful delivery and leadership experience in complex programmes in Defence and wider Government, Johnathan has lead the development and successful growth of consultancy capabilities across different sectors, scenarios and delivery challenges. Johnathan has experience across Air, Maritime and Land Systems, but has predominantly worked on Maritime Platforms in the Cost Engineering, Project Controls and Business Cases. He has also been engaged in a number of conceptual and early lifecycle projects and programmes with Dstl, DE&S and wider industry partners.

    In support of his consultancy work Johnathan is a Chartered Engineer (IMechE), volunteer Chair of the Western Region of the IMechE and member of the IMechE council representing the members in the South West.

    Outside of work Johnathan is a supporter of Bristol Rugby and Wales, has a love of winter sports having skied from a young age and loves travelling the world.

    Mark S

    Mark has nearly 14 years’ experience working in the MoD, primarily within the GEOINT environment. He has supported Ops as an analyst and most recently co-ordinated activities, resourcing, prioritisation and business continuity within a leadership team.

    Proficiency in supporting operations, he has a vast knowledge of user experience with the evolving architecture within MoD and how to successfully manage change within organisations to enable continued support to the mission. An earlier adopter of Agile methodology within the GEOINT arena, he has led the user engagement that has evolved capabilities and delivered new ways of working. Experienced as a requirements manager he understands how to communicate a customer demand to providers for effective deliverables.

    Outside of work Mark is an ardent gardener and appreciates growing a variety of fruit and vegetables to enjoy. He enjoys scenic walks to keep fit whilst also being a keen fan of the NFL and Formula 1.

    James

    Having operated within the IT delivery sector across multiple Government departments primarily in Defence, James has considerable expertise in the implementation of Agile principles to successfully deliver quality products at speed whilst complying with the necessary corporate policies enforced by Government departments.

    James has a proven track record in providing effective leadership of delivery teams in the successful provision of complex IT services in both Defence and more recently, flood digital services. Having managed internal delivery teams and also utilising various procurement routes including frameworks & open competition to obtain externally provided services either through SaaS, prime contracts or delaminated services, James is comfortable taking both an active, and elevated supplier management approach to delivery.

    In his spare time, when not with his Dog, James enjoys both travel & sport, most notably Formula One & Football.

    Lauren

    Lauren is very ambitious Project Manager and has over 7 years’ experience working within the MOD, leading and delivering projects predominantly in Crypto and Defensive Cyber. Lauren has experience of delivering projects following both the waterfall and agile methodologies, making her approach to project management highly adaptable.

    Lauren has a strong attention to detail, matched with the ability to confidently deliver at pace to achieve goals and deadlines. Lauren has excellent communication skills and can tailor her approach depending on the stakeholder, to ensure she builds effective working relationships. Lauren values working as part of a team and is passionate about developing her leadership skills further.

    Outside of work Lauren loves being outdoors, walking her dog, surfing, paddling boarding and camping. Lauren also enjoys going to the Theatre to watch musicals and attending concerts.

    For the last 12 years, Alex has worked within education in various teaching roles specialising in Physical Education. Alex places great importance on defence and national security and is excited to embark on a new career in consultancy with Apache IX and brings with him highly developed transferable skills.

    Having organised and led various educational projects to meet complex objectives, Alex demonstrates a hardworking, organised, and forward-thinking approach and works competently under pressure. Whilst working in PE leadership roles, Alex has developed strong communication skills to be able to successfully work with different stakeholders; showing commitment to offer the best service and willingness to adapt to new ideas.

    Outside of work, Alex loves to spend time with his friends and family, keeps physically active by playing a range of different sports and replenishes any lost calories through his love of food!

    With over two decades of experience, Kashif is a seasoned Technical Manager and Verification & Validation (V&V) expert. His expertise spans the entire product life cycle and encompasses multiple industries, including Aerospace, Critical Systems, Telecoms, and Automotive.

    He has a strong track record in delivery and team management, demonstrating proficiency in establishing and overseeing large, geographically distributed teams. Kashif excels in defining test strategies and planning within technical and budgetary constraints, particularly on large-scale projects.

    Kashif is a dedicated advocate of the Servant Leadership style, consistently bringing out the best in his team.

    Beyond his professional commitments, he’s an avid cyclist who enjoys cooking, photography, and taking family walks.

    Adam

    Having completed their MSc in computer science from the University of Bristol, Adam is excited to start a new career in the defence sector. With a particular passion for security and its integration into development life cycles, Adam is looking forward to expanding his interests throughout his graduate programme.

    Outside of work Adam enjoys improving his home server(s) with further functionality where he self-hosts various applications. Recently, he has also enjoyed miniature painting, with a particular focus for historical miniatures. To support his hobby Adam has expanded his skills to 3D printing and modelling on his resin printer.

    Toby joins us with a Masters in Chemistry from the University of Bristol. During his degree he gained experience working for a large oilfield services company, researching the non-Newtonian characteristics of novel drilling fluid formulations. Since graduating he has worked in the logistics department for a chemical distribution company and, more recently, as a ski instructor in Canada.

    Toby is eager to develop his knowledge and skills within the defence sector as well as translate his scientific background into the project management and consultancy space.

    Rachel started her Defence career as an Dstl Operational Analyst (OA) where she found her love for the Land Domain. Since then, she has welcomed complex roles such as leading a team in Qatar, Middle East to deliver Land Platform trials and procurement, as well as working out of Army HQ, UK to deliver the Mission System Integration programme across MoD. Rachel is an established P3M consultant who has developed a strong reputation for combining her technical/OA skillset with her P3M to ensure successful delivery of contracted work. Rachel does not shy away from a challenge and always takes a One team approach to embed a culture of trust, honesty and integrity when delivering the customer demand.

    Outside of work Rachel enjoys ride outs on her SUZUKI SuperSport GSXR750, developing her archery skillset and having a pint of cider down the pub with her Red Labrador Jack.

    George is an ambitious and driven Project Manager with over 5 years’ experience working across the UK MOD. He has spent time leading and delivery projects for Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO), with a particular focus on new technology/capability implementation and cloud-based defence solutions. In the cyber domain George has led on some of the flagship projects for defensive cyber, overseeing implementation and adoption of capability that significantly enhanced operational capability and helped to highlight and reduce cyber threats.

    George is an organised and capable project manager with significant knowledge of MOD procedures, policies and ways of working. He even tackled the Welsh 1000m Peaks Race – hence, his fell shoes have been in storage for some time.     Andrew has accumulated a wealth of experience spanning twenty years within the UK defence sector. His private sector experience includes an eleven-year tenure at two organisations, QinetiQ, an international security and defence company, and tpgroup. Between these two organisations, Andrew contributed nine years as a Crown Servant working in Cost Assurance and Analysis Services (CAAS) and Project Controls within the UK’s Ministry of Defence – Defence Equipment and Support (MoD DE&S) Organisation. Throughout his career, Andrew has consistently proved his versatility and adaptability by taking on pivotal roles encompassing diverse disciplines such as Cost, Schedule, and Risk Analysis, Risk Management, Operational Analysis, and Human Factors.

    Andrew has always been a keen sportsman, who currently enjoys training for and competing in Triathlons. His sporting highlights include a 931-mile charity cycle ride, from John O’Groats to Land’s End. Over this period, he has had the opportunity to work at every level of the intelligence cycle, finishing his military career as the leader of a highly skilled team of analysts, working at the apex of unique operational complexity.

    Having been responsible for the regeneration of a critical capability, Rob is accustomed to working with stakeholders across the MOD, Government, and corporate spectrum. Developing a ‘shared vision’ between stakeholders is at the heart of Rob’s approach and his experience of delivering successful outcomes, often in agile, complex, and challenging environments; makes him highly adaptable when things don’t go quite to plan.

    At home, Rob likes to spend most of his time with his wife and two sons. His very finite spare time is often spent lycra clad while riding his bike up and down the hills of Plymouth, reading, or playing guitar. Albeit not very well!
