Geospatial IT Delivery Phase Project Management

Along we with a wider delivery team, we were project managed a Ministry of Defence (MOD) customer friend project delivering a £100million critical IT project into several UK sites.

Situation

The UK is critically dependent on existing IT capability for access to satellite reconnaissance imagery and Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) output. This capability was due to reach End of Life (EoL) from 2016 which, in combination with fundamental technical changes within partner nations, would have caused significant degradation to the UK’s GEOINT capability. The delivery of the project within the time, cost and performance envelope of approvals was essential to maintaining critical UK operations.

Task

We were tasked with project managing an MOD customer friend project delivering a £100Million critical IT project into several UK sites. We worked with a wider delivery team, including CGI, Qinetiq and Atkins.

Action

We were given the lead role as the customer friend project manager, required to assist the MOD in delivering a critical capability. The role required managing a multi-skilled team from various industry partners and nations to work alongside the UK government. Our team was required to manage and effectively deliver a major UK supply and support contract at various UK sites.

Results

The role we provided to support the UK government was critical to the success of the project. Of note was leading on a major commercial dispute protecting the UK government’s interests. Additionally, we provided excellent leadership skills to ensure the consortium of industry partners performed to the highest level, gaining maximum performance scores from the MOD for several months.
